The new SafeCheck 8 tester has been designed specifically to ensure that traceable test results can be stored for rental products when PAT tested between hires. These traceable test results will clearly demonstrate that a rental product supplied into the DIY or construction industry is electrically safe and functions correctly, at the time of hire. This is a basic requirement of the HSE, specifically under the Electricity at Work regulation which stipulates that the supplier must re-test the product to the same standard used at the time of manufacture (CE). The tests that must therefore be applied are earth/ground bond, flash/hipot, and function test to check correct operation this which may include current consumption, continuity, polarity and leakage measurements.
Please note that the majority of in-service PAT testers cannot meet these test requirements, as they have their test output limited to less than 2.5 mA for leakage delivered under the flash/hipot test. A large proportion of in-service PAT testers do not offer this mandatory flash/hipot test.
The SafeCheck 8 tester has been ergonomically designed for rugged bench use within service and repair centres. It features a large high contrast LCD display and the user interface is clear and simple, with test sequences pre-configured for Class I grounded, Class II double insulated, and extension lead/power cord product types. Additional test sequences can also be programmed into the tester either from the menu or simply from a series of barcodes that can be held within a work instruction document issued to the operator or service centre. In addition to full test result traceability, including user and location, the SafeCheck 8 has been designed to greatly simplify the testing process, and automate items such as asset tracking and the printing process of tested pass/fail labels, which can then be attached to the power cord of the power tool or appliance under test. Not only can the SafeCheck 8 read power tool appliance asset or serial numbers via a barcode scanner, but it can transfer this information onto an indelible tested pass/fail label, via a Desk Test n Tag Printer. Appliance or asset numbers may then be tracked through Pat Guard, our MS Windows application that is available as an accessory.
